Apple October 23 Media Event Live Stream

So it looks like this time we're not going to have to rely on other bloggers to tell us what is happening at this event. Apple has decided to stream the entire event live via this link.

http://www.apple.com/apple-events/october-2012/

The event kicks-off at 12:30 PDT. Everyone is expecting Apple to reveal its latest product, the iPad Mini, just a few days before Google releases their Nexus and Microsoft their Surface.

This holiday season will surely be a battle for the best gadgets: best smartphones and best tablets. Take your pick.

The October 23 Apple Media Event: The Venue

Everyone in the tech industry is talking about the invitation that was sent out by Apple last week saying "We've got a little more to show you" pointing to the much speculated release of the Apple's new "iPad Mini". In the typical Apple tradition, they leave everyone guessing what it is really they are going to reveal in this media event in San Jose, CA.

Everyone can say what they think about this new product. I'll just wait and see what they reveal tomorrow. If it's anything better than the new iPad, I'll think about getting one, maybe even instead of the iPhone 5.

This media event will be held at the California Theater in San Jose, CA. This theater has a lot of character but personally it's not the modern techie venues that you'd expect Apple to choose as venue for an event like this. For those interested to see what the venue for tomorrow's reveal looks like, here's a couple of photos I borrowed from this website http://www.shomler.com/calsj/index.htm.

The New GoPro Hero3 Camera

So now that I have almost every accessory for the Hero2, GoPro releases their new camera with a much more advanced and more improved features at midnight last night. One just can never catch up with technology. It's like buying a new Apple iPhone 4S then the iPhone 5 is released or the new Apple iPad, then now, they've just announced that the new iPad Mini will be released next week.

Anyhow, this new GoPro Hero3 camera comes packed with new improvements. It's smaller, lighter and apparently 2x more powerful. One of the features that I liked, based on the published specs, is the integrated Wi-Fi. I have recently got myself the Wi-Fi BacPac for my Hero2 and while the GoPro App was just released last week, of which I have still to make it work. And now GoPro is saying, forget about that. Get the GoPro Hero3 and you don't need to worry. It's all included. But wait, it's only included in the Black Black Edition, their so-called Pro series.

Well then, what can we do? I'll just keep using my GoPro Hero2 and hopefully my wife will buy me the Hero3 for my birthday next year. That is if they don't come up with the Hero4.

Update: GoPro Hero 2 HD Camera Wi-Fi BacPac iPhone App

Here's an update on my last post regarding the newly released GoPro Wi-Fi BacPac iPhone app.

Screen after iPhone and Camera connected
I managed to make it work, partly, that is. I tried the same procedures while away from other Wi-Fi networks and my iPhone 4 managed to connect with the GoPro Hero2 camera via Wi-Fi.

But once I tap on the Connect Control button, I get the GoPro App Set Up prompt.

So bottomline, it's still not working. I then looked for comments and reviews in the App Store and realized that my iPhone has IOS 6 and the app does not have full functionality on IOS 6.

So I'm guessing I will have to wait for the next release. I'll keep trying to make this work even with limited functionality.

Calling Woodman Labs, Inc., please hurry. If you can get this to work together with the multi-camera functionality, I might consider buying more cameras.

GoPro Hero 2 HD Camera Wi-Fi BacPac iPhone App

Welcome Screen
I have just downloaded the recently released GoPro iPhone App that works with the GoPro Wi-Fi BacPac. I followed the instructions but as of this point, I have yet to make it work.

Step 1: Your GoPro Hero 2 HD Camera needs to have the latest software update. Note that this app (and new software release) will only work with the GoPro Hero 2 and not the first generation GoPro Hero camera. To download and install the latest software, you need to have the GoPro CineForm Studio program running in your computer (Mac or PC).

Step 2: You Wi-Fi BacPac and Remote will also need the latest software update.

Step 3: With your GoPro Hero 2 camera and Wi-Fi BackPack and Remote updated with the latest software, you can download the GoPro iPhone App.

Primary Screen: Scanning for Camera

Step 4: Before launching the app on your iPhone/iPad, and before you disconnect, make sure that you have setup your Wi-Fi BacPac with the password that you want.

Step 5: On your iPhone/iPad, under Settings, Wi-Fi, search for the GoPro camera from the list of WiFi networks (with the GoPro name that you set-up). Login with the password that you created.

Step 6: In your camera's Wi-Fi menu, set the Wi-Fi mode to Phone and Tablet.

Step 7: Launch the app on your iPhone/iPad and let it search for the Wi-Fi GoPro Hero 2 HD camera.

Step 8: I am stuck in this step and still figuring out how I can make the app find my GoPro Hero 2 HD camera.. I'll post an update once I get this to work.

Have fun!

Lark iPhone Silent Alarm » Geeky Gadgets

My wife and our 9-month-old boy have always been waking up to the sound of my alarm every morning before I even start hearing it myself. So I looked for a product that actually can wake me up silently and I found this. So far, it fits my needs. Or should I say, my wife and kid's need to stay asleep longer. You can set as many alarm schedules as you need and when it sets off, the Lark vibrates while you wear it in a lightweight strap on your wrist. So you wake up without the traditional loud sounds that wakes up everyone (including your neighbor) except you. But what's good about it is that you get a free iPhone/iPad App that gives you statistics (with history) on the quality of your sleep. I think that's a plus in itself but for an additional fee, you can also get sleep coaching on how to get the most out of that third of your life. Although, I think the coaching part is a little more than what I need right now so I did not pay extra for it.Lark iPhone Silent Alarm » Geeky Gadgets
